Is there a limit to melodies or are they infinite?

I produce music on FL. I just recently thought about this. To make you understand my question better here is what I mean. For example lets say hypothetically there is only 3 music notes and only 1 scale and you are only aloud to play 3 notes. CDE. With this we can create melody: CDE, CED, CCC, CDD, CEE, EDE, EEE, ECC, EDD etc. You get the point. So that has a limit. So back to my question now given the real 7 notes, and all the scales and pitches eventually isnt there a limit to melodies or no? Why or why not. Im really curious about this thank you.
