(living in China)... western people's ears?

We had a new air conditioning unit installed this week, and I was chatting to my mum on Skype and for the life of me I couldn't remember the english. I desperately wanted to say kong tiao. I often find myself saying 'shen me?' instead of pardon? and 'hao' instead of OK.
