How long can someone use meth before it can become lethal?

I have a family member that uses and am very concerned about the use of the drug and what it is doing to his body. He lives in my home and is very unsanitary in all aspects of his life and has already displayed some of the mental effects. Anyone have any thoughts on this? And please only real answers on the issue: I would appreciate the respect.
