My dryer stopped mid cycle. now it wont start. dead as a doornail. drum turns easily by hand.help?

Dryer is a maytag,( the cheaper version) about 5 yrs. old..checked filter. it was thick. a friend used dryer the day before and didn't clean filter. Bought it used 2 years ago and have never had a problem with it before. thanks
